About Us

Tickers is a voluntary, non-profit-making organisation, which is dedicated to helping people improve and maintain their health and confidence following a heart attack or other cardiac issues.

The first session of Tickers took place on 6th February 2001, and we have helped hundreds of people since then.

We offer three one-hour exercise sessions per week - guided by a specially qualified professional trainer - which offers a degree of safety and specificity which is not available in a commercial gym.

Our focus is on helping you to regain life confidence through improved fitness and a sense of community. We pride ourselves on our goal to improve and maintain a good quality of life for our members.

We recognise the impact that cardiac health concerns can have on the people around you too, and so we invite you to bring friends, family and loved ones with you to participate in the classes – all are welcome!

Exercise helps to prevent a wide range of other physical issues developing, and social interaction protects mental health and offsets loneliness and isolation in the older age group.

Many of our members have been referred to us after treatment with the Broomfield Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Team, with whom we closely liaise.

Tickers is affiliated to the British Heart Foundation.

Social Activities

Many people form friendships at Tickers due in part to the shared empathy within the group. We have held a Quiz Night with supper each February over the last few years (Tickers Birthday Party) and we organise occasional one-off trips out.

During April to November, we organise monthly 3 to 6 -mile Sunday walks in the countryside to build strength and stamina, often ending with a pub lunch.
